Research Division
Disclaimer: A new division formed in 2024 is starting to gain momentum. Stay tuned!
About us
We are an interdisciplinary group that conducts both fundamental and applied research in machine learning and scientific computing, consisting of former members of AIFSR innovation group from academia and industry. Our areas of research span applied optimization, NLP, computer vision, and applying ML/AI in scientific research, among others. We assist incoming research fellows in grants/fellowship applications.
Structure
Former or current AIfSR innovation group members (currently enrolled or graduated from NYU already) who have at least two semesters of AIfSR innovation group experience may propose projects. If approved by the AIfSR Research Division leader, this person becomes a Research Fellow of this project and has the final say on all the decisions associated with the project but can be overruled by the AIfSR Research Division leader in exceptional circumstances.
Former or current AIfSR students (with at least one semester of AIfSR experience) may request to join one of the proposed research projects. The Research Fellow’s decision on accepting/rejecting a person for a project is final.
If the Research Fellow has another person they would like to involve as a collaborator for the project (professor, industry professional, etc), this is possible. In all the cases, the PI maintains ownership of the project under AIfSR and is not to give the ownership away to any collaborator (including, say, a professor of a research lab this PI may be working in currently).
Opportunities we enable
Research fellows get to work in a highly selective collective of researchers and publish with AIfSR affiliation.
Research fellows get the experience of being the leader of a research project, an opportunity to form and lead a small research team to solve a particular research question.
Other participants have the ability to work on intense research projects under the direction of an accomplished research fellow and, given great progress and contribution, co-author a publication.
